REZENSION
Die amerikanische Avantgarde-Pop-Chanteuse Sam Phillips steht mehr auf Martinis & Bikinis - gefühlvoll, aber unsentimental und nicht abgehoben mit T-Bone Burnett musikalisch angerührt.

Ein neues Werk des Ehepaares Sam Phillips (sie) und T Bone Burnett (er): Sie schreibt und singt, er führt Regie. Burnetts Ideenreichtum ließ ihn in den letzten Jahren zu einem der gesuchtesten Produzenten werden, auch bei "Martinis & Bikinis" gelang es ihm wieder, die Songs in interessante und abwechslungsreiche Arrangements zu verpacken. Leider kann dies nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen, daß Sam Phillips' Kompositionen - anders als auf dem Vorgängeralbum "Cruel Inventions" (1991) - zumeist der melodische Kick fehlt. Den kann man eigentlich nur bei "Baby I Can't Please You", bei "Strawberry Road" und vielleicht noch bei "The Same Changes" ausmachen.
