His tenor sax functions as the lead voice throughout this set with passion and enthusiasm while ace studio musicians King Errison,Wilton Felder, Freddy Robinson, Paul Humprey and Al Vescovo provide him with just the right amount of cushion to pull this off. Art Blakey has always been considered among the greatest drummers in the world. He was also the greatest talent scout in the world, having discovered Clifford Brown, Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Wynton Marsalis, Keith Jarrett, Terence Blanchard and many more greats including Chuck Mangione, who is featured here with the Messengers, where he got his first break in the 60s.
