Hoewel zijn leven kort en moeilijk was (1924 - 1966), vond Bud enige troost en rust in de jaren (1959 - 1963) dat hij in Europa woonde. De opnamen op dit album zijn van maart en augustus 1962, gemaakt in de Deense Radio Concert Hall en het Jazzhus Montmartre in Kopenhagen. Hoe gehavend de man geestelijk en lichamelijk ook was, zijn genialiteit is hier veel duidelijker aanwezig dan algemeen wordt aangenomen.
