Ronnie Cuber is al meer dan een halve eeuw een van de belangrijkste solisten op dit instrument. Gary Smulyan, meervoudig winnaar van talrijke jazzpolls als baritonsaxofonist van het jaar, wordt vooral geprezen voor zijn geestige composities en uitvoeringen.
