A superb collection of the finest recordings of one of the best-loved American singers of the late 30s and early 40s. Florida-born Frances Langford (1913-2005), became a popular recording and radio star in the mid-30s, before a film career in Hollywood. Her final film appearance was as herself in The Glenn Miller Story. Her sweetly melodious mezzo-soprano voice, light but strong, made her the ideal interpreter for so many of the great standards of her day, epitomised by her versions of Moonglow and Blue Moon. I'm in the Mood for Love, her theme song and first big success (in the film Every Night At Eight), spearheads this meticulously compiled sequence of 27 of the very best of her many recordings. The majority come from stage and screen, such as Falling In Love With Love and When You Wish Upon A Star. Included are hit duets with Bing Crosby (Gypsy Love Song .) and Tony Martin (Why Do I Love You?). The album closes with the latter and two great songs from a Glenn Miller film: Serenade In Blue and At Last.
