It has always been blown by a special aura and stands for ultimate sound quality: the fast-running analogue master tape made in two-track technology of a recording. Only a few listeners still have access to this medium today – if only because it requires a correspondingly designed, high-quality tape recorder.
But nothing has changed the nimbus of the "lace" - quite the opposite. Quite a few are looking for listening experience.
For this reason, STEREO offers the quality-oriented hi-fi enthusiasts this unique "Festival of Master Tapes", which unlocks the audiophile gourmet with their sonic potential via CD, SACD or high-bit files.
Among the providers within a small, fine scene that make pre-recorded tape drawn by master tapes, STEREO has surrounded itself and picked out 16 strong tracks that have been transferred to this disc set with the utmost care.
The highest level is guaranteed in the form of Nagras IV-S an absolute tape machine legend, which was provided to STEREO in perfect condition by the manufacturer from Switzerland for the overplays.
The specification was: two tracks, only one running direction, a speed of 38 cm/sec. plus equalization according to CCIR. The transfer was carried out under optimal conditions and without intermediate devices directly to the compact, battery-powered digital recorder Nagra Seven, which converts the music into PCM format of 24 bit/192 kilohertz and stores it in its SSD memory. The DVD-ROM of this tape festival makes even those untreated files accessible. This generates the information for the 16-bit/44.1kHz CD layer of the hybrid SACD, while for its high-resolution track, the PCM data is transferred extremely precisely into the DSD format in an elaborate, lengthy computing process. This ensures that you are always as close as possible to the original sound of the tape machine and the respective tapes.
