The concept for the 1st Take album originated after participating in and organizing many sessions for musicians to get together and create. I had seen many creative sessions turn stagnant after getting bogged down in redoing and rehashing every little thing. To me, some of the best ideas musically were sparked by just getting together and jamming, just letting the musical ideas flow from that collective spirit and energy in the room. Getting that first initially recorded idea seems to always be the best Live Energy in a session without loops or sampling, JUST REAL music. That is what I wanted the 1st take album to be about, a group of musicians getting together in the studio, building off of a jam, and pressing record. The goal was to try and capture that spirit and energy in a 1st take of a song being newly created. This was often done without any preconceptions and songs would originate from a simple guitar riff, horn line, or drum beat. The result is a collection of 19 tracks of unique ORIGINAL Funk, Jazz, Go-Go, Reggae, Rap & Pop songs featuring my sax as the main lead instrument throughout. The essence of each and every song on the album was essentially captured on that 1st take in the studio. We even left some talking, picked up by the mics while recordings because it seemed to fit that 1st take idea. I am very happy with what we were able to come up with. The album has great vocals, awesome guitar riffs, thumping funk bass guitar, incredible keys, full horn section, percussion and solid drum beats touching on various musical genres but always with a funky, soulful touch. The19 track album has a song for everyone from the beautiful Pop song 'Pretty Please' (track 3) Featuring Kristin Anzures on vocals, Hip Hop and Rap on 'End of Discussion'(tr 7 ) & 'My Song'( tr 14) feat. SLOP of the Grilled Lincolns, or the Reggae jamband feel on 'Yin & the Yang' feat. Bumpin Uglies (tr 11). Some of the instrumental tracks have been compared to the sounds of LETTUCE, Maceo Parker, Marcus Miller & David Sanborn with our Unique original sound.
