CITIZEN RHYTHM Of The People, By The People, For The People. Here's what critics, writers, and music insiders have to say. "fearless & funky yet tasteful . fresh and very 'today' sounding . a completely new, original treatment in a jazz fusion vein.very ingenious. Jazz Fusion played by top rate musicians with passion, chops and REAL emotion, no faking it here. a modern jazz fusion band with just the right sound for today's audience." Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, SouLive, and Cream get into a bar fight.it's the closest imagery that describes the sound of San Francisco based music collective, Citizen Rhythm. It is the music of Mingus, Monk, Miles, and more fused with funk, hard rock, hip-hop, and odd-meter grooves. Formed in 2010 by multi-award winning San Francisco Bay area based guitarist, Terrence Brewer, Citizen Rhythm is another evolution of fusion. Taking all of the musical styles Brewer grew up playing and marrying them together to create the best of all worlds - music that has booty-shaking grooves, is harmonically and rhythmically advanced, based on the open improvisation form that is jazz.and, at times, it rocks.hard! No one is doing anything close to this on the jazz scene right now. Citizen Rhythm is comprised of some of the San Francisco Bay areas most talented and in demand musicians; guitarist Terrence Brewer, keyboardist Michael Coleman, Bassist Gabe Davis, and Drummer Rob Rhodes. The musicians comprising CR have traveled all around the world playing music on the highest levels. These guys have performed with Ledisi, Mary Wilson, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Louis Bellson, Buddy Guy, Elvin Bishop, Joyce Cooling, Pete Escovedo, Darlene Love, Melba Moore, Ray Obiedo, Tony Lindsay (Santana), John Nemeth, Calvin Keyes, and many others. Here's what critics, writers, and music insiders have to say. "easily strides across the bridge between funky jazz and rock. propelling the style forward in a dynamic, modern way. The songs on "Of the People" are both elegant and strong. Continuously evolving" Citizen Rhythm is lead by multi-award winning guitarist Terrence Brewer. In 2004, Brewer started his own record label, Strong Brew Music, and to-date has produced six albums for that record label. Brewer' s last three albums ('QuintEssential', 'Groovin Wes', and 'Setting The Standard: Vol 1') combined to spend nearly 100 weeks on the National JazzWeek Radio charts weekly top 50. Those same three albums made their way into the top 15 on the national JazzWeek radio charts ('QuintEssential' peaked at #15, 'Groovin' Wes' peaked at #9, and 'Setting The Standard: Vol 1' peaked at #12) and Brewer has lead his groups in over 2000 shows in the last 7 years. Brewer has performed to sold-out crowds at the 52nd Annual Monterey Jazz Festival, the world famous Yoshi's at Jack London Square, Yoshi's San Francisco, SFJAZZ Jazz Festival, and countless other venues. In addition to headlining his own shows, Brewer has shared the stage with vocalist/pianist Diana Krall, Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers), Gerald Albright, has worked with Mary Wilson (The Supremes), Darlene Love, Dr. Anthony Brown, Pete Escovedo, and has studied with the likes of Charlie Hunter, Duck Baker, Tom Patitucci, Mark Levine. When Brewer is not touring regionally and nationally, he finds time to instruct master classes, clinics, and lectures for the likes of Stanford Jazz Workshop, SFJAZZ, The Jazz School, Lafayette Summer Music Workshop and presenting at colleges, high schools, and middles schools throughout California including San Francisco University High School. Keyboardist Michael Coleman grew up playing music in Brooklyn, NY. After studying music at Oberlin College, Coleman relocated to the Bay area to continue his musical journey. He has toured throughout the United States and Europe with multiple groups including Miles Kurosky, Jug Free America, Tune-Yards, Beep and the Attachments. Having recorded numerous albums under his own name, he is found also working as a sideman on countless projects. Coleman can be heard several nights a week in the Bay Area playing an array of keyboards and electronics in groups ranging from power pop to free jazz. Bassist Gabe Davis was born into a musical family and first picked up an instrument at age 4. After playing piano for several years, he gravitated towards the bass and rock music. Since then, Davis has played in a wide variety of bands and styles including jazz, latin, funk, soul, classical, and electronic music. He has performed around the country and around Europe in venues ranging from small clubs to outdoor arenas. When Davis is not touring, he plays locally in the San Francisco bay area with a variety of jazz, blues, rock, and soul groups on both the upright and the electric basses. Drummer Rob Rhodes from Oakland CA, has performed in the San Francisco bay area for over 20 years and is one of the most in demand first-call drummers in the SF Bay area. Rhodes studied at the College of Alameda and San Francisco State University and is a master of all drumming styles.
