Sylvia Thompson is a late-comer to the professional jazz music scene, after having grown up in a jazz-loving family and been a member of several classical music choral groups. Her father was a jazz pianist and vocalist in a local orchestra in Southeast Texas during the 1940s and '50s. He greatly influenced her interest in music, especially jazz vocals. She decided to try her hand at jazz performing after moving to Tennessee a few years ago, where she began a very rewarding association with the Nashville Jazz Workshop in Nashville, TN. She has sung at a few jazz music venues in Nashville, including the Jazz Workshop, and plans to extend live performing in the area and beyond.
