Annette Bening plays Claire Cooper, a woman whose idyllic New England existence is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious and psychotic serial killer (Robert Downey Jr.). Not only does the murderer wreak havoc upon the community, but he also starts to appear in Claire's dreams, leaving clues as to his next victims. Despite the fact that she can predict the madman's every move, no-one, including her husband (Aidan Quinn), believes her. Determined to put a stop to the killing, she uses her mental link to locate the killer and decides to confront him herself.
