Transformations

In their latest album, Transformations, the Amsterdam based Ensemble Cam\u00E9l\u00E9on presents two fascinating\nchamber arrangements, both of beloved works from the\norchestral repertoire, and both made within a few years\nof the originals. Beethoven\u2019s \u2018Pastoral\u2019 symphony was\narranged for string sextet by Beethoven\u2019s contemporary,\nMichael Gotthard Fischer, in 1810. The Cam\u00E9l\u00E9ons\nhave added a double bass here for extra depth of\nsound. The septet version of Strauss\u2019 Metamorphosen is\nbased on Strauss\u2019 own early draft for the 23-part\nversion. Rediscovered in 1990, this septet version was\ncompleted and published by Rudolf Leopold. The result\nis a blend of delicacy and grandeur that combines the\nbest elements of chamber and orchestral playing:\ndeeply felt, exquisitely voiced, and beautifully recorded.
