Zingaro showcases the pianist and composer Terry Klinefelter in a trio format with jazz greats Lee Smith (bass) and Byron Landham (drums), along with guests artists Jerry Weldon, John Swana, Denise King, Anne Sciolla, Paul Klinefelter, Steve Giordano and Glenn Ferracone. Zingaro gives us a look into the musical mind of Terry Klinefelter as a pianist, composer, arranger and vocalist. This is a CD about the music. Six of the pieces are original compositions and the other four are Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett's "Superstar", Frank Foster's "Simone", Cole Porter's "I Love You" and Tom Jobim's "Zingaro". Terry has nothing to prove; she is a excellent pianist and canny collaborator. If you are looking for pianistic athleticism you probably have come to the wrong place. However, if you enjoy good music that is beautifully played by Terry and an incredible group of musicians this may be the CD for you. Review by Karl Stark Philadelphia Inquirer Newspaper January 21, 2013: Terry Klinefelter Zingaro: Portrait in Black and White (Vectordisc.com ***1/2) Pianist Terry Klinefelter, whose music has merged Mozart and Mingus, heads in an earthier direction here with her trio: bassist Lee Smith (legendary padre of Christian McBride) and drummer Byron Landham of Betty Carter and Joey DeFrancesco fame. This recording has slink and sass in the same way super-storm Sandy had wind. Klinefelter, now a certified yoga instructor, finds the downward-facing dog in 'Swagger,' in which Jerry Weldon offers his burly tenor. Leon Russell's 'Superstar' gets taken for a righteous trot, while singer Denise King offers her essential chops on the bluesy essence that is 'Money.' On the title track, Klinefelter's vocals in Portuguese are not her strong suit, but luckily her trio conjures up the kick of a good caipirinha.
