Love Life Choices is the debut full\-length album from New\nYork City\-based vocalist Rebecca Angel, following her\nwidely acclaimed 2018 EP What We Had and a handful of\nwell\-received singles and other interim releases. In Love\nLife Choices, on both her original compositions and\ninterpretations, Rebecca displays maturity and poise,\nwell\-honed craftsmanship, a steely confidence, smart\nmusical choices and an innate sense of self. Rebecca’s\nindividuality shines through on each diverse track.\nOn these 10 stellar tunes, Rebecca Angel threads together\nelements of several musical genres, including jazz, soul,\npop and Brazilian music, fashioning an instantly embraceable\nhybrid sound. For the sessions, Rebecca assembled a\nworld\-class team of collaborators, including veteran\njazz\/R\x26B producer\/arranger Jason Miles (Miles Davis,\nLuther Vandross, Grover Washington Jr.), who also\nprovides keyboards, and an impressive cast of virtuosic\ntop\-shelf musicians, among them guitarist Romero Lubambo,\nbassist Reggie Washington, drummer Gene Lake, and\ntrumpeter\/flugelhornist Dennis Angel, who also happens\nto be Rebecca’s father.\nLove Life Choices boasts an eclectic track list that finds\nRebecca drawing material from several disparate sources.\nThe album’s covers run the gamut from Buffalo Springfield’s\n’60s protest classic “For What It’s Worth,” which has\nalready topped several prominent radio charts as a single,\nto songs written by Brazilian maestro Antonio Carlos Jobim\n(“Corcovado” and “Waters of March”), the beloved singers\nSade (“Maureen”), Bill Withers (“Just the Two of Us”), and\nreggae icon Bob Marley (“Waiting in Vain”). The collection\nalso features a customized cornerstone of the modern\nclassical canon, “Gymnopédie No. 1,” originally penned by\nthe visionary Erik Satie and retitled here as “Till Now,”\nfeaturing newly written lyrics by Rebecca.\nThe variety of song topics addressed within Love Life Choices\nis as wide\-ranging as the music itself, with some tracks\ndirectly speaking to vital issues facing contemporary\nsociety and others inspired by Rebecca’s recent marriage to\nher steadfast partner, Jonah. In addition to her interpretations\nof classics, the singer contributes three impactful\ntunes that she composed: “Side By Side” (co\-written with\nMiles and beatboxer Butterscotch), “Summer Song” (Electro\nRemix) and the incendiary “Thoughts and Prayers,” with\nlyrics that could have been ripped from today’s headlines.\nEach of Rebecca’s performances is richly textured, finely\nnuanced and sophisticated, reminiscent of artists who’ve\nbeen at it much longer than she has. Throughout the\nalbum, even as she glides easily from style to style, Rebecca\nAngel puts her own distinctive stamp on each track.\n“I never try to be someone I’m not.” She says, “the most\nimportant thing is believing in what you sing or play,\nbecause if you don’t believe it nobody else will.”
