Jan King has been a trailblazer from her debut as the lead singer of The Orchids in the 80s, through the 90s as the founder and leader of the all-female rock bands Puss n' Boots and Crying Blue Sky, as well as her solo work in film soundtracks. She is originally from Minnesota, where at a young age she wrote and recorded the song 'Chains', later covered by Soul Asylum. Kim Fowley, producer of The Runaways flew her out to the Los Angeles club scene of the 80s and 90s where her distinctive vocal style and visual lyric and songwriting set her apart. Jan cites songwriting influences as diverse as Rimbaud, Jimi Hendrix, Henry Miller and The Beatles. She has also made her mark as a guitarist, often compared to Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Peter Green, becoming an inspiration and mentor to other female musicians who hold their own in a genre where women are often under-represented. Jan now lives in Chicago, and continues to perform and record her distinctive brand of bluesy textured rock with her band Medicine Ball. 'The idea behind this record came to me in a dream', says Jan. 'The goal was to create something that would bring you to a state of lucid dreaming, where your mind sorts out so many problems.'
