Thomas Garcias blissed-out backwash guitartones and fuck-it fuzz attack juxtapose the bands dryand thudding foundation, creating a tropically depressedgrog. Cutting through the lacquer with a glossy shimmer,producer Swami John Reis (Drive Like Jehu, Rocket FromThe Crypt, Hot Snakes) coaxes a tightly wound, rigid backdropfor vocalist Jacob Turnblooms morose-pop delivery.Lyrically far more non-linear than their 2012 debut albumStrange Heaven, Bermuda echoes the familiar selfdeprecatinghumor that is heavily present in the bandsprior work, but focuses less on interpersonal relationships,favoring broader inspirations of alienation and melodrama.Themes of gentrification, addiction, religion and the intoxicatingaroma of modern day conspiracy theories wrestleagainst a bright and tight sonic terrain. This is the ghetto ofKokomo.Bermuda has a boozy and breezy island malaise onthe surface. But once submerged, the listener is exposed toconfusion, nihilism and the notion that even with all of ourtechnology and omnipresence of big brother, essentially weare all still very lost.
