This epic documentary ranges across Ireland, the Hebrides of Scotland and as far away as Coptic Egypt. It explores how the monks of the monastery of Iona founded by St. Columba, combined the influences of the east with Celtic and Pictish craft traditions in metal working and stone carving, to create a work which was so astonishing in its elaboration that for centuries The Book of Kells was considered to have been the 'work of angels'.
