Fantastic Hawk is the 90s bedroom 4-track indie rock sound updated to more modern standards, with sonics and arrangements tuned and tightened up to reveal the beautiful songs that always lay underneath. The Bottom Of The Hudson sound on Fantastic Hawk spans the distance from classic indie sludge such as Seesaw, Luxurious Bags, and Sebadoh to the sonic heights of the timeless song giants Robyn Hitchcock, Richard Davies, and Jeff Mangum, all under the gloss of an interesting production / arrangement style a la The Church (when they were brilliant), early My Bloody Valentine and the aforementioned Hitchcock s work with The Egyptians. With two full length releases and two EPs under their belt, Bottom Of The Hudson are hitting their stride. Listening to the songcraft on display on Fantastic Hawk, it s stunning that this is, in a way, the band s first proper album. For fans of Sebadoh, Bowie, Byrds, Richard Davies, Robyn Hitchcock.
