Souled American was significantly ahead of the country-rock curve when they released three Rough Trade albums in the late eighties. Most folks assume the band dissolved after the label tanked, but not so! They retreated into their Chicago home studio and continued to record: they took their understated, country inflected sound and stripped it down, pared it back, and streched it out till it seems impossible that it can still be holding together. Intensely, meticulously crafted, Souled American's newest records comprise some of the most personalized, lonely, and devistatingly sad music of this decade.
