Caribou & Downbeat 78's Story

A 2-CD clambox set celebrating the music that was popular on Jamaica's sound systems in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Disc one features the Caribou label which recorded Mento /Calypso mixed with other music styles from around the Caribbean Gulf, including R'n'B, Cha Cha, Rumba and Meringue. These tracks mark the birth of an Urban Jamaican musical style and featured well known artists such as Lord Tanomo, Count Lasher & Count Sticky as well as new boy Laurel Aitken'. Disc two features The Downbeat label which issued US R'n'B cut over the previous few years. Features a 24 page booklet with sleeve notes by Jeremy Collingwood.
