A LIFE IN MUSIC Pietr is a guitar picker from wayback. Born in Perth, he recounts the moments that guided him towards his musical star. The 1st was when his grandfather bought him a guitar an overseas trip. He recounts that as a defining moment, 'It was love at first sight. It was such a beautiful shiny thing!' He started recording with a young jazz singer at the time named Vince Jones. These were mainly demos although the ABC played a song called Guiding Light from these sessions. He still has about 20 unreleased songs from these sessions. His interests shifted to songwriting and he landed himself a publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music in Sydney and ATA in Sydney. He also wrote for Image music in Melbourne. His song Together was covered by artists from all over the world including Takanori Hiura Japan, Ben Kramer Holland and Eurovison winner from Sweden Lotta Engberg who charted with the song at no 3. He also had covers for his song Long distance Lover. He also entered various song competitions and won many Paters awards (now defunct); won the Melbourne song competition in the 80's; he also won the Byron Bay song comp in 1991; came 2nd place in the International Jewish song festival with his song I believe in Peace and came runner up for his song Nothin' to Lose in the 90's. He also won various Eistedford awards for his songs. His interests then shifted to musical theatre and he wrote a musical called Crossbeat which was put on at the wharf theatre in 1993. He also wrote a kids musical about the life of Jonah and the Whale which he'd still like to place as an animated kids feature. One of his songs from his musical Jonah became the it song of the Sydney musical Rasputin called Heroes and Villains and sung by Robbie Krupski. Peter played solo gigs at the Kellett St café as a residency for years playing blues with a fiddle player named Marc Singer. Still writing and trying to place songs he met the Blind Boys from Alabama backstage at the Basement in 1997 and he gave them a song of his called Nothin without a heart. He recalls one of them saying, 'Keep on rockin' son' . 'This was inspirational to me,' says Stein, 'because here were these guys singing such positive songs and they started at a time in the 40's when it must've been hard for a blind black band to keep it together and get work. This is when I tapped into the power of God and His power in our lives.' They recorded the song on their CD Holdin on (tr 8) Pietr for his instrumental gentle works. Jonquil features Peters virtuosity as a guitar player and his interests in spiritual matters and meditative music.
