Alex De Grassi's A Windham Hill Retrospective is a look back at what the Grammy-nominated fingerstyle guitarist calls the first 'lucky thirteen' years of his musical journey which began at the famed Windham Hill Records.

REVIEW
. one of the greatest steel string guitar player/composers of the last decade. --Acoustic Guitar Magazine

De Grassi has mastered the art of playing melodies, counter-melodies, harmonies, and intricate rhythms simultaneously. His touch is as exquisite as his lyricism, and his improvisational/compositional musical consciousness is as intricate and subtle as a sparkling crystal. --Down Beat

De Grassi's solo steel-string pieces resemble orchestral overtures more than mere songs. Alex's control and sensitivity are almost as striking as his technical expertise. --Guitar Player Magazine

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Yokosuka, Japan but grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, his grandfather was a violinist with the San Francisco Symphony. He learned to play trumpet but at age 13, discovered the guitar and hasn't looked back, gaining a degree in Economic Geography from University of California at Berkeley. He taught himself the guitar although he has studied with noted teacher Bill Thrasher, jazz piano with Mark Levine and composition with William Mathieu. His first recording was Turning: Turning Back in 1978 on Windham Hill Records. He has played at such notable venues as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, Belfast International Festival, Telluride, and Wolftrap, and teaches at the National Summer Guitar Workshop, the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music, and the Omega Institute, as well as his own workshop series.
