`Hokum' was een nieuwe stroming binnen de blues: vrolijk, upbeat en vooral heel suggestief qua tekst. Het hoogtepunt van deze stijl lag in de jaren '20 en '30, met als belangrijkste exponent Papa Charlie Jackson. Waarschijnlijk de bekendste hokum-track ooit is `It's Tight Like That', opgenomen door Georgia Tom en Tampa Red, ook bekend als de Hokum Boys.
