Er zijn veel compilaties met Cubaanse muziek. Deze Rough Guide heeft een nieuwe invalshoek gevonden door zich te concentreren op muziek die buiten Cuba gemaakt is in de post-Castro diaspora, met een mix van Cubaanse en niet-Cubaanse muzikanten. Uiteraard passend in het rare groove concept, dus de meeste tracks zijn niet eerder op andere verzamelaars verschenen. Met o.a. Grammy-winnaar Chirino, Chico Orefiche, Pantaleon Perez Prado en Francisco Fellove.
