Rafiki Jazz is ontstaan als een ontmoeting tussen Britse roots- en jazzmusici met collegas met een migratie- of vluchtelingenachtergrond. Afkomstig van vier continenten bespelen de groepsleden uiteenlopende instrumenten als kora, tabla, merimbau, ney en oud. Centraal staan de Soefi-soulzangeres Sarah Yaseen en Avital Raz, geboren in IsraÙl en zingend in het Hindi. Van religieuze Koptische liederen tot een bewerking van Nusrat Fateh Ali Khans Mustt Mustt, Rafiki Jazz heeft een fascinerende en indrukwekkende cd uitgebracht.
