Der in Neuseeland geborene Pianist Mike Nock steuerte Ende der 1960er-Jahre mit der elektrischen Gruppe The Fourth Way einen wichtigen Beitrag zum neuen Jazz bei. Auf Ondas, seinem einzigen, 1981 aufgenommenen ECM-Projekt, führt er ein akustisches Klaviertrio mit einem gewandten Kontrabassisten und einem frei denkenden Schlagzeuger. Nocks sehr offene Kompositionen lassen beiden viel Raum. Eddie Gomez’ geschmeidiger Kontrabass ist oft eine zweite Lead Stimm. Jon Christensens pulsierende Rhythmen wirken wie Wellenschlag.
