ANOTHER PERFECT DAYFollowing the departure of guitarist ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke over his disapproval of the recording venture with Plasmatics lead vocalist, Wendy O. Williams on a cover of the Tammy Wynette song, ‘Stand By Your Man’, Lemmy and bonkers skin-beater, Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor wasted little time in seeking his replacement. Their choice of ex. Thin Lizzy / Wild Horses guitarist, Brian ‘Robbo’ Robertson, however, caused more than a few raised eyebrows among the fan-base who considered Robertson nowhere grebo enough for their favourite troupe of road warriors. The resultant Another Perfect Day album released in 1983 was indeed a somewhat melodic departure from the offerings of yore, but it did contain a fair share of Motör-classics such as, ‘Dancing On Your Grave’, ‘Shine’ and ‘I Got Mine’ (some of which have again found their way into the band’s live set of late) and reached the non-too-shabby position of #20 in the UK chart.Roberston’s time with Motörhead only lasted for this one album however, and his refusal to play certain older tracks live and his off-kilter image was to be his un-doing. That and the rather unfortunate barroom glass incident resulting in a severed hand and thus a cancelled U.S. tour also hastened his departure. This time however, Phil Taylor felt his time would be best spent elsewhere and following a fracas with Lemmy, promptly joined Robertson in their new but short-lived Operator venture. Lemmy instead went back to the Funny Farm to take stock. This deluxe 2CD edition of the album adds the single b-side ‘Turn You Round Again’ and a complete live performance taken from the Apollo in Manchester in June ’83.
