Caminhos De Agua

Caminhos de Agua is easily one of the finest albums of the year. More than a remarkable musical achievement, it is a powerful tribute to the rivers that sustain both life and memory, and a heartfelt protest against environmental destruction. As a Brazilian listener, it's impossible not to draw parallels with Antropoceno's *No Ritmo da Terra*. Both records seem to belong to a new wave of artists reconnecting extreme music with nature, ancestry, and cultural identity. Yet Kaatayra's voice remains unmistakably its own. Instead of the frozen landscapes traditionally associated with black metal, Caio Lemos transports the listener into the humid, spiritual heart of the Brazilian rainforest. The album's greatest strength lies in its seamless fusion of seemingly opposing worlds. Ferocious blast beats, tremolo-picked guitars, and anguished screams coexist naturally with delicate acoustic passages inspired by Brazilian folk traditions, ritualistic percussion, and the constant presence of flowing water. Like a river itself, the music shifts effortlessly between moments of meditative calm and overwhelming intensity, creating an immersive and deeply cathartic experience. One of the album's most touching elements is its use of voice. Alongside the harsh vocals are moments of striking serenity, but it is Dona Maria's spoken passages--opening and closing the record--that leave the deepest impression. Her words carry warmth, wisdom, and bittersweet nostalgia, evoking the comforting conversations many of us remember having with our grandparents. They give the album an intimate, deeply human dimension amid its overwhelming sonic scope. Caminhos de Agua ultimately feels like a spiritual reconnection with the land and a celebration of Indigenous knowledge and resilience. Rich in atmosphere, emotionally devastating, and unlike anything else in contemporary black metal, it stands as one of Kaatayra's most compelling works and an essential listen for anyone interested in music that is both artistically adventurous and profoundly meaningful.
