When multi-platinum recording artist and Bay-Area icon Marc E. Bassy left Republic Records in 2018 to start his own label, New Gold Medal, he did so with the intention of making more personal, groundbreaking music. He accomplished this feat on 2023's "Folk Hero Funk", written and recorded at Motorbass Studio in Paris, France on the request of his late friend Virgil Abloh. With over 20 million streams on Spotify, Folk Hero Funk was an immediate success, leading to Bassy's partnership with Positively Records to create an ultra hi-fidelity, 180 gram black vinyl, pressed at RTI and mastered by Eric Boulanger of the Bakery LA.
