The film is based on Gris Grimly's design from his 2002 edition of the 1883 Italian novel 'The Adventures of Pinocchio' by Carlo Collodi. The characters are voiced by A-list talent including Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, and more. Please note that this is not the family-friendly Disney version of Pinocchio, but a darker presentation of the classic story. Alexandre Desplat composed the film's score, as well as a number of original songs for the film. The film marks the second time Desplat and del Toro collaborated on a film, the first being 'The Shape of Water'.
