Jean-Michel Bernard is a singular pianist who has found his place at the crossroads of genres. Classically trained at the Bordeaux Conservatory and at the Ecole Normale de Musique in France, Jean-Michel Bernard quickly broadened his activity to jazz, collaborating with Eddie Davis, Guy Laffite, Jimmy Woode, Dizzy Gillespie and Ray Brown. He met Ray Charles (who called him a “genius”) in 2000, whom he accompanied on a world tour as part of his quartet, while also taking on the role of conductor and arranger. But it’s for the film and TV industry that he really found his place. In 40 years, Jean-Michel Bernard has worked on over 200 films, series and documentaries and has been the Musical Director of many popular TV and Radio programs in France. A long-time collaborator of director Michel Gondry, he has worked with Martin Scorsese, Claude Chabrol, Francis Lai, Fanny Ardant, Philippe Sarde, Francis Veber and many others. He also arranged music for Ennio Morricone and Lalo Schifrin, who once said his “genius was beyond words”.

With Piano Cinema, Jean-Michel Bernard revisits the history of great film music through his piano, offering delicate or groovy arrangements of well known pieces from Vladimir Cosma to John Williams, Nino Rota to Hans Zimmer, Michel Legrand to Alexandre Desplat, as well as some of his own pieces.
