Bluegrass originated in the 1940s in the rural regions of Kentucky and Tennessee, where the grass has a special bluish color. With elements of traditional folk music from Ireland and England, African-American dance music and the gospel, bluegrass developed into a form of country music enriched with swing and blues elements. The typical instrument that dominates the music is the banjo. Bluegrass is no longer an insider tip, the music is known all over the world and is an integral part of various folk festivals.
