Melanie C ist eine starke Stimme in heutigen Diskursen über psychische Belastungen, Body Positivity, Feminismus und die LGBT-Cmmunity und ihr achtes Album, das einzig und allein ihren Namen trägt, ein kristallklares Statement. Für ihre 10 neuen Songs arbeitete Mel C mit namhaften Songschreibern und Künstlerkollegen wie Rae Morris und Fryars (die auch für ihre 2019er Single "High Heels" mit dem Drag-Quintett Sink The Pink verantwortlich waren), Jonny Lattimer (Ellie Goulding, James Bay, Rag'n'Bone Man), Future Cut (Little Mix, Shakira, Lily Allen), Tom Neville (Dua Lipa, Kesha, Calvin Harris) und Shura zusammen. Neben den beiden Singles "Who I Am" und "Blame It On Me" hören wir das tropische "Overload", das Broken Beats-getriebene "Escape", den sommerlichen Donna Summer-Tribut "Self Love" und das moody "Nowhere To Run", inspiriert von Billie Eilish, der Mel C bei den diesjährigen BRIT Awards den Preis als "Best International Female Solo Artist" überreichen durfte, nach langer Umarmung. "Melanie C" ist ein neues Kapitel in Girl-Power und erscheint als CD, Deluxe-2CD (mit unveröffentlichten Bonustracks und den besten Single-Remixen), MC und - erstmals in Mel C's Karriere - als Vinyl-LP.
