The Pacific Guitar Ensemble began in 2010 when two friends, classical guitarist David Tanenbaum and steel-string guitarist Peppino D'Agostino, decided they wanted to form a larger guitar ensemble that could perform a wide variety of repertoire on contrasting instruments. It currently has eight members which include the two founders, plus Paul Psarras, Jon Mendle, Lawrence Ferrara, Marc Teicholz, Michael Bautisa, and Tony Kakamakov, all of whom play classical guitar and some of whom play other plucked instruments. The Pacific Guitar Ensemble members are comprised of not only guitar faculty from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, but also include some of its most exceptional alumni. They all perform together on different plucked instruments including nylon string classical, steel string acoustic, electric bass, Arch Lute, Oud, and 17th century theorbo.

While the Pacific Guitar Ensemble's repertoire features original music written by composers like Brazilian guitar legend Sergio Assad, noted minimalist Belinda Reynolds, and the group's own renowned steel-string stylist Peppino D'Agostino, it also includes unique arrangements from the great composers from Bach to Fernando Sor.

Guitarists like nothing better than to get together to play for and with each other, learning, sharing and acknowledging. The Pacific Guitar Ensemble is a group dedicated to keeping this dynamic process alive and we hope and believe that the audiences and listeners will enjoy being invited.
