Like many African Americans of his generation, John "Peter" Chatman - better known as Memphis Slim - has been shaped by racism and poverty before becoming one of the world's greatest blues pianists.

Memphis Slim recorded more than 500 songs in his career, filling the gap between traditional and urban blues with his soulful voice and booming piano. "Ready Rolling Blues" contains some of his most passionate tracks.
