Jim Stranahan, the father of prodigy drummer Colin Stranahan, has put together a recording of beautifully arranged original compositions for 3 to 5 horns and rhythm section that all have a familiarity to them. Stranahan has been a jazz educator for over 30 years and paid his dues for 40 years as a local Denver musician. His horn arrangements are intricate and engaging. Some of Colorado's top musicians were hired for this date including his son Colin as well as world renown trumpeter Peter Olstad. Free For All is a fine debut for one of Denver's great unsung talents.
