Leon Thomas might not be as well known as Pharoah Sanders, with whom he worked on The Creator Has A Master Plan, but he was, nevertheless, a ground-breaker, his African-inspired yodeling and spiritual seeking forging new roads ahead for the jazz vocalist. Influenced by Coltrane, Shepp and Kirk and an integral part of The New Thing!, Thomas recorded transcendental jazz with a political and social conscience. This 15 tracker, culled from his four studio and two-and-a-half live albums for producer Bob Thiele's Flying Dutchman label, never puts a foot wrong. (5 STARS) --Mojo
