* Kent's King New Breed CD of 2002 was a major success highlighting future dancefloor monsters including `Burnt Toast And Black Coffee' by Mike Pedecin and Little Willie John's `I'm Shakin''.

* The King labels had a huge number of releases and research and curiosity has inevitably turned up more wonderful black dance tracks with a strong blues feeling for our delectation. Lesser-known acts such as Billy Conn, Dolph Prince and Teddy Humphries show their wares alongside R&B masters such as Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Freddy King and a welcome reprise from Little Willie John.

* El Pauling has two shots through his original "5" Royales and his later group the Royalton that featured him as the star of the show.

* For lovers of the new try Hal Hardy's Hollywood waxing `Love Man' - a stunning rap intro leads into a one-off of a great black dance track. The King Pins update the Charms' `Two Hearts' to great effect and Herb Hardesty's `Just A Little Bit Of Everything' has been cherished by the "in" Europe for four decades.
