Feed the flame: The Fame and XL recordings

* Kent's 2006 Spencer Wiggins compilation put the spotlight on one of Southern soul's great lost figures. That gathered together his recordings for the Goldwax label between late 1965 and early 1969 and was a critical and commercial success, making available for the first time in an eternity a set of great recordings. Since then Kent have been slowly piecing together this companion set. These are his later recordings, made at Fame and Sounds Of Memphis and of the 23-tracks, 11 are previously unreleased and another seven have never been available on a legitimate CD.

* All six of the recordings made at the legendary Fame studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama for his last Goldwax session are here. Produced by Goldwax owner Quinton Claunch, they were sold, along with Spencer's contract, to Fame owner Rick Hall. They include the legendary Northern soul stomper `Let's Talk It Over' and a beautiful take on the soul classic `Cry To Me'. Through access to the Fame archives Kent are able to present these in stereo for the first time.

* The archive has also thrown up some amazing unreleased numbers, including a brilliant version of Bettye Swann's `Make Me Yours', the future floor-filler `This Time' and the most in-demand number of the moment on the rare soul scene, `I'm At The Breaking Point'. We also have both sides of Spencer's two singles for the Fame label, including a fabulous version of `I'd Rather Go Blind' which showcases his voice to perfection. Our final recordings are the six sides he recorded back in Memphis for the Sounds Of Memphis label, including the Southern soul masterpiece `I Can't Be Satisfied' and three numbers including `Feed The Flame' which have never seen official release before.
