The first edition of Wolfgang Sawallisch as conductor and pianist, embracing recordings from the Philips and Deutsche Grammophon catalogues. The set includes symphonies by Haydn, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, and the celebrated symphonic cycles of Brahms and Mendelssohn, alongside choral music by Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Schubert. Rare operatic recordings from the archives of Deutsche Grammophon as well as the more familiar Wagner recordings from Bayreuth are also included, as well as Lieder with Fischer-Dieskau, Prey and Schreier. The set is a limited-edition Original Jackets collection, accompanied by a probing liner note by Rémy Louis.
