How do emotionally receptive, sensitive, romantic composers react when faced with the reality of war? This thought, and the associated yearning for beauty, is the key factor common to all pieces featured on Albrecht Mayer’s new album: Richard Strauss’ notoriously difficult Oboe Concerto, written by the octogenarian composer at the end of the Second World War, is combined here with lesser-known masterworks by Elgar and Goosens as well as a new arrangement for oboe and orchestra of Ravel’s yearning Le Tombeau de Couperin. On the occasion of Albrecht Mayer & the Bamberger Symphyoniker playing Strauss’ Oboe Concerto and other parts of the album repertoire in Hamburg at the Elbphilharmonie on May 28th,on May 29th the orchestra will show up with Albrecht for an album presentation at a Yellow Lounge in Berlin!
