This is the best of both worlds, and Gill exploits it to make otherwise forgettable material sound like the catchiest of hooks and the most personal of confessions. The album's most striking song is "Go Rest High on That Mountain," which Gill wrote by himself for his older brother Bob, who died last year of a heart attack after a hard life.
