Pierre Perret werd al vroeg opgemerkt door Georges Brassens, Boris Vian en Eddie Barclay, die allemaal zijn talent zagen om een uniek gevoel voor proza en geestige woorden te combineren met ondeugend rijm waaruit zijn sociale betrokkenheid bleek. Zijn werk behoort tot het erfgoed van elke Franstalige.
