Piano Works Vol. 4 (Armengaud)

This, the fourth volume of the series of recordings covering all of Debussy's piano music, has until now only been available as part of a boxed set.

The pieces recorded on this particular CD are among the composer's most mature and innovative. The main works represented are the two books of Etudes (Studies) which were written as a homage to Chopin, whose own etudes are considered to be benchmarks of the piano repertoire. They are highly refined pieces that are designed to test the performer's dexterity and technical skill. The other pieces featured on the disc are miniatures, with the exception of the popular "Suite: Pour le Piano".

Apart from his excellent series of recordings of Debussy for Arts, the prize winning French pianist Jean -Pierre Armengaud has also released CDs on such labels as EMI, Accord, Mandala, and Nuova Era of music by Poulenc and Satie, amongst others.
