Birthright: A Black Roots Music Compendium

'Birthright' offers tracks by iconic, little-known, and even forgotten musicians. While artists such as blues guitarist John Lee Hooker and gospel greats The Staple Singers are genre standard bearers, musicians such as jazz clarinettist George Lewis and 'one man band' Jesse Fuller are perhaps remembered only by afficionados. The artists represented on the set range from pioneers such as zydeco accordionists Clifton Chenier and Boozoo Chavis, right up to contemporary artists such as Mississippi hill country guitarist Cedric Burnside and the Haitian-American singer-songwriter Leyla McCalla.
