With the 1995 EP Smells Like Children already platinum, Marilyn Manson now march further into the world of sado-masochistic cabaret. Their latest full-length release is a knee-jerk "love/hate" fest produced by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and Dave Ogilvie. Tracks include "Irresponsible Hate Anthem," "Dried Up, Tied And Dead to the World," "Wormboy," "Tourniquet" and more. Zu Beginn waren Marilyn Manson nicht mehr als eine Handvoll Verrückter, verdorben und nur geringfügig talentiert. Ihr Metal-Industrial-Noise war zwar scharf und bissig, andererseits aber auch noch recht unausgegoren. Das änderte sich, als Trent Reznor ins Studio kam und der Band den Rücken stärkte. Sieben Monate später hatten Marilyn Manson das intensivste und inbrünstigste Industrial-Metal-Album seit The Downward Spiral im Kasten.

Antichrist Superstar ist wie ein akustisches "House of Horror" -- so einprägsam und dauerhaft wie die Spuren einer grausigen Bluttat. Wütende Rhythmen treffen auf alles zersetzende Samples und kreissägenartige Gitarren-Riffs, zu denen Sänger Marilyn himself unwiderstehliche Melodien trällert. So fein und sanft, als hätte er Glassplitter verschluckt. Antichrist Superstar ist zweifellos ein unverzichtbares Album -- unabhängig davon, welchen Anteil Trent Reznor daran hatte. --Jon Wiederhorn

Versteht sich die von Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) produzierte Horror-Band Marilyn Manson als Kabarett-Attraktion der Hölle? Zwar gerät ihre optische Splatter-Maskerade eher zur Karikatur, doch auf der Industrial-Metal-Apocalypse "Antichrist Superstar" glimmt in der diabolischen Düsternis viel Musikalität - ein morbides Fest für Genre-Fans. ** Musik: 03-04
