In the night skies near his Muncie, Indiana home, power repairman Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) experiences something out of this world. His close encounter sets into action an amazing chain of events that lead to contact with the benevolent aliens and their Mothership. Now considered a modern classic, the film was nominated for 8 Academy Awards, winning Oscars for Best Cinematography and Best Sound Effects Editing in 1977.
