The Cockleshell Heroes

British WWII drama starring José Ferrer, Trevor Howard and Christopher Lee. Major Stringer (Ferrer) attempts to pull off a daring raid with a small band of Royal Marines using folding kayaks to plant mines on a German controlled shipyard in Bordeaux. However, he meets resistance from fellow officer Captain Hugh Thomas (Howard) who has a much more traditional approach to warfare and believes that this mission is certain to fail. After a number of failures during training Stringer turns to Thomas for assistance in training the men. When he agrees morale is lifted and suddenly the men believe that they might just be able to achieve success in their audacious mission.
