Jeanne Moreau stars in this psychological drama directed by Tony Richardson. Set in a rural French village, Mademoiselle (Moreau) is a newly arrived school teacher who becomes infatuated with a local woodworker named Manou (Ettore Manni). However, her suppressed desire results in her causing damage to local buildings and infrastructure, fully aware that the local community will suspect the Italian Manou before they do her.
