DESCRIPTION
Fresh from the success of the first two A Better Tomorrow films, in 1989 action maestro John Woo would unleash The Killer, a spectacular blend of explosive gunfights and dramatic performances, including the magnetic Chow Yun-Fat in one of his most memorable roles. Ah Chong (Chow Yun-Fat) is a hitman whose latest job takes a wrong turn when, during a shootout at a lavish nightclub, he accidentally blinds singer Jennie by firing his gun too close to her eyes. Racked with remorse, Ah Chong decides to retire from his life of crime and help Jennie get a cornea transplant. But when Ah Chong's rancorous former boss betrays him, Ah Chong receives an unexpected helping hand from hot-headed police detective Lee Ying (Danny Lee, City on Fire). An international sensation, The Killer put Woo on the radar of genre fans the world over and inspired waves of imitators, but none that could outclass it.

I preferred the packaging you sent last time. It was a large white envelope, about A3 size, with bubble wrap inside. Because the envelope was much larger than the item, you folded it repeatedly, increasing the thickness of the bubble wrap.
The item arrived in excellent condition.
This time, you used a smaller yellow envelope with less bubble wrap. As a result, the item isn't in as good condition as before; there are some creases at the corners, but it's still acceptable.
It's the definitive edition of one of (if not) John Woo's best films. I just found the Atmos to be about 6dB too low like Hard Boiled but The Killer sounded a bit thinner so you may want to bump up your bass but it was nice to have more spacious object placement. They also give you a choice of classic and new subtitles.
The image quality is fantastic as well. There's tons of special features but this is where the issue is, the extended Taiwanese cut on the Blu-ray doesn't let you pause, rewind, fast forward or skip chapters and it won't resume if you have to turn it off and come back to it so you've gotta start it all over again from the start. Another cut only has 3 chapters when it should obviously have more.
There also seems to be a round splotch on the film in the top-right for its entirety, likely an issue with the film scanner as I think it's on the Shout version as well. Hopefully Arrow will issue a replacement disc for the extended cuts though.
An awesome but sadly flawed release. First off the presentation is fantastic and this is pretty much the definitive release except that there's an issue with the alternate cuts Blu-ray in that the main extended cut doesn't allow you to pause, rewind, fast forward or skip chapters. You can only play it or stop it which makes it pretty much impossible if you have something else you need to do in the middle of the movie or can't finish the movie as it won't resume the film.
The Atmos track is pretty great but I have an issue with a lot of Atmos tracks on Arrow discs in that I have to bump up the audio +6dB to +11dB to get it to where it should be. The Atmos provides some cool spacial effects but it's thinner sounding than Hard Boiled and could use more bass. The subtitles are pretty great too as you have a choice between the classic translation (Dumbo) and the latest one (Shrimp).
My O-slip was also damaged in transit which is the second time with getting damaged movies from the bubble envelopes as opposed to the cardboard ones. One thing about this release is that there's tons of special features and some great art. There's also discussion of a splotch that seems to remain on screen for most of the film which was likely an issue with their film scanner when they film was scanned in 4K.
