SDCC 2025 Recap: The Biggest Trailers, Reveals, and Surprises from Comic-Con
Long gone are the days when Comic-Con was just about your favourite superhero fandom- now they are full-blown pop culture events where we get massive reveals, first looks and new trailers for the biggest upcoming blockbusters!
2025’s edition of San Diego Comic-Con (the biggest of the cons) didn’t just meet fan expectations- it blew them out of the multiverse (lol). From spine-chilling horror trailers to long-awaited spin-offs and fan-favourite returns, this year’s SDCC was packed with headline-worthy reveals. Whether you're here for Stephen King, Star Wars or indeed superheroes, the biggest names in entertainment brought their A-game to the convention floor! Let’s take a look at some of the most exciting of them that are dominating conversations!
Stephen King’s The Long Walk Trailer Dropped- and It's Brutal
Another year, another Stephen King screen adaptation! Not that we’re complaining- the undisputed King of Horror has an entire library of stories that are still waiting for screen time! With the first trailer for The Long Walk, fans of dystopian horror got a treat- and probably a bit of trauma too! The long-awaited adaptation of this early King novel written under his Richard Bachman alias is directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games, I Am Legend) and follows 100 boys forced to walk nonstop- or die (it’s a really long walk). It’s a simple-sounding premise but as we often discover, real terror can lie in the simplest of setups.
Mark Hamill plays the cold-blooded Major overseeing the whole nightmare and SDCC-goers saw an extended scene that was literally blacked out mid-panel due to its particularly disturbing content- and today, where it’s often thought that we’re desensitised to everything- it speaks volumes! The public trailer is now live, and the film hits cinemas on September 12th. Expect this one to make waves during spooky season.
Peacemaker Season 2 Trailer: More Multiverse Mayhem!
John Cena is back in the helmet (or so we think, difficult dealing with an invisible man), and Peacemaker Season 2 looks wilder- and weirder- than ever. The SDCC trailer, set to the late, great Ozzy Osbourne’s “Road to Nowhere”, teases a messy deep dive into the multiverse. We're talking alternate Peacemakers, new allies and enemies, and serious fallout from Season 1's chaos.
Co-chairman and CEO of the DC Studios James Gunn showed up in-person to confirm the return of fan-favourites like Vigilante, and he also revealed that the show will also feature Interdimensional Imps. The trailer is now online, and the season officially drops on August 21st exclusively on HBO Max!
New Avatar: The Last Airbender Spinoff: Meet the Earthbender Avatar in Seven Havens
Queue the Steve Carell “Ok, it’s happening!” meme, because a brand-new Avatar series is coming (not the blue meanies, but what Screen Rant called "one of the greatest cartoons ever made.”) We got our first look at Seven Havens during the franchise’s 20th anniversary panel. Set generations after The Legend of Korra, the new show follows the next Avatar- one of two Earthbending twins- who’s stepping into a world where people don’t really want an Avatar anymore. In this world, that is “shattered by a devastating cataclysm… that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its saviour.”
The creators of the original series are back on board, and the early art looks nostalgic but updated. No trailer yet, but this is shaping up to be the next big thing in the Avatarverse! Expect more updates as production ramps up.
Also though, it’s worth mentioning that there is in fact a brand-new trailer for the blue meanies’ third instalment- Avatar: Fire and Ash- live now!
Star Wars Goes Dark: Maul: Shadow Lord + First Look at Ahsoka Season 2
The Star Wars universe is forever expanding and Lucasfilm pulled back the curtain on two big projects: Maul: Shadow Lord, a new animated series focused on fan-favourite Darth Maul post-Clone Wars, and the return of Ahsoka for Season 2. Fans present at SDCC got exclusive stills- including our first look at Maul’s new animated design- which includes a costume update.
Sam Witwer is of course back to voice Maul (because who else could?). No trailers are public just yet, but both shows are deep in production. Maul hits sometime in 2026, while Ahsoka Season 2 is expected sooner, likely early 2026 on Disney+.
Gen V Season 2: New Poster, New Trailer and More Blood!
Prime Video’s Gen V panel didn’t drop a trailer for the public (yet), but fans at SDCC got a sneak peek- and it sounds like things are only getting bloodier for the The Boys spinoff! The new poster teases the chaos to come, and the cast confirmed major crossovers with The Boys Season 5 incoming.
Expect new “Supes”, some familiar faces and a lot more havoc. Season 2 premieres September 17th, and based on all the buzz we’re hearing from the panel, it’s going to be wild! (but then, what else would you expect?)
Rick and Morty Spin-Off: Say Hello to President Curtis
Adult Swim is expanding the Rick and Morty multiverse with President Curtis, a new spin-off focused on well- President Curtis. Voiced by filmic veteran Keith David, whose credits include roles in iconic films like The Thing, They Live, Pitch Black, it was revealed Adult Swim’s SDCC animation panel. The show follows Curtis as he deals with interdimensional threats, cryptid diplomacy, and a staff that’s barely keeping it together.
There’s no trailer yet, but production is underway, and it’s being executive produced by Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon himself (also the creator of NBC’s Community). So yeah, it’s probably going to be nuts in the best way.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Trailer: More Animatronics, More Terror
Blumhouse is back with another round of nightmares from Freddy’s! The Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 trailer premiered at SDCC, giving fans a terrifying glimpse at the new instalment. Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard both return to reprise their roles and the animatronics are even more unhinged. Skeet Ulrich (Billy Loomis in Scream) also joins the cast in an unspecified role that has people speculating that he’s playing Henry, one of the original creators of the killer bots.
The trailer is now live, and the movie hits big screens on December 5th this year.
Predator: Badlands Reveals First 15 Minutes With An Alien-Language Predator POV
At SDCC 2025, director Dan Trachtenberg surprised fans by unveiling the first 15 minutes of Predator: Badlands, which flips the franchise on its head by telling the story entirely from the Predator’s point of view. A young Yautja is forced into a deadly gladiatorial duel with his brother and after a tragic separation, he is exiled to the hostile world of Kalisk and forms an unlikely alliance with an android played by Elle Fanning.
Trachtenberg emphasized that Badlands dives deep into Predator culture, featuring a fully developed Predator language crafted by the same linguist behind Avatar’s Na’vi. Disney even gifted attendees custom Predator masks for extra immersion! Predator: Badlands is set to release on November 7th.
From reboots to original spins and everything in between, SDCC 2025 proved the future of genre TV and film is brighter- and more chaotic and thrilling- than ever. Whether you're counting down to spooky season or waiting for the next multiversal crossover, there’s something (or plenty of things) to get excited about!
